FUTURISTIC DREAMERS (JOVANA FILIPOVIC ON FWSK)

There is no Macedonian designer who does minimalistic elegance like Jovana Filipovic. Her discipline in creating and making clothes is getting on higher level with each new collection. And this time, it was no exception. Perfectly tailored, the collection was reflection on some future perfect times. She imagined a future where art, design and architecture are the driving force.

White long dresses that follow the line of the woman’s silhouette, same style but in black color dresses covered from one side with draper style tweed shawl were the opening combinations. And just when you think you are seeing another monochromatic show, the designer surprises you with an outfit that totally shakes the balance of black and white. And there it was, my favorite piece: bronze baggy pants and shirt, which blew my mind with the complex but yet, simple and clean design. As the show moved toward to more elegant and yet chic minimalistic clothes, the balance was moved again with bronze baggy pants and bronze coat, combined with white cotton top that offered a sporty option for red carpets.  And yes, I would wear the combination on the red carpet.

The rest of the collection, skirt with zippers on the front, two piece suits in black color, black shirts combined with nude color pants and black shimmer tops just strengthen Filipovic status as one the best designers in Macedonia, and designer who knows how to make clothes to everyone’s measure. And no matter if you like minimalism in tailoring or monochromatic colors, this collection will win you over. My opinion is that her secret weapon her strong focus on a specific idea. She will take the idea and elaborate it over the development of the collection.

Filipovic covered the spectrum of black, white and grey in all of her designs using quality materials like wool, silk and cotton. Maybe it was so good because of the combination of the fabrics used in the pieces. Could you imagine more minimalistic approach for the future than this?

She transformed her past collections into the future. Everything old is new again, when you know how to do it this well.

IRINA TOSHEVA, MITE ZANOV & ROBERT IVANOVSKI ON FWSK

IRINA TOSHEVA

Just when you are feeling down and overstocked by fifty shades of grey, black and white, and perhaps you are thinking there is nothing bright at all in the fashion world, along comes Irina Tosheva to raise up your fashion mood. Colorful with young spirit, happy prints, warm and so wearable are the words that can describe Irina’s latest collection. Collection was consistent of: burst color dresses printed with drawings of urban buildings inspired by the artist Vane Kosturanov, showing the spirit of her hometown Skopje, A-line skirts with charming ruffles, shirts with colorful dots and beautiful knits (my personal favorite). The pieces had Cyrillic love messages like: Love at first sight, Favorite, Loved… The whole performance was amazing: famous Macedonian pop group Nokaut was playing live at the show; the models had such fun walking and almost dancing down the runaway, “armed” with smile upon their faces. And who wouldn’t dance and feel wonderful in this kind of clothes that can lift your mood every time you wear them.

One of the best pieces on the runaway was the pink girlish like coat tight with cute bow on the front. It reminds me on my childhood, when my mother used to make all of my clothes. One of my favorite was the girlish A-line coat she was making for me, with specific details on it.
All colorful pieces printed with drawings of houses are now looking for their fashion home. They can hardly wait to color our hometown in blue, green, yellow, pink and white, screaming their love messages.

MITE ZANOV

What can I say and not to be wrong about Mite Zanov collection?! His clothes have proved how should one designer prepare and design his first collection. He was fashion revelation on this year’s Fashion Weekend Skopje. His fashion story “The naked dawn” was composed of avant-garde, brave and gracious pieces. Every piece complemented the next one, almost like he recounts your favorite fairytale. His precise and sharp tailoring in nude colors (colors were following the headline of the collection) brought freshness and innovation to the Macedonian fashion scene.

On the catwalk, Zanov offered clothes for modern, courageous and rebellious women who are not afraid to raise their voice against the fashion unification, against everyday concord of humanity, who have fallen asleep and forgot the beauty of the Human essence and existence. Zanov found his inspiration in the aquarelle landscapes of the English painter William Turner. That’s why his lady warrior is dressed in clothes with clean lines, skirts with high waists made of materials who remind us of knight Templar's, in golden color in combination with earth color coats with interesting shapes at the sleeves. Red and black couldn’t have looked prettier in his long dresses, the first one narrow and the second one coat- dress with zip on the front. But my personal favorite was the beige color pants with high waist and folds on the front.

If this was his starting fashion point, I can hardly wait to see Mite Zanov's next one. From now on, he is one of my favorite Macedonian designers.

FASHION WEEK DIARY: DAY 2

PURPLE ELEGANCE

For the second day of Fashion Weekend Skopje I have choose purple flair dress with folds on the neck. Since the dress had a little bit of elegant note in it, it was logical to me to combine it with nice tights and dress sandals, like the one that I am wearing. To add a little bit of casual and chic feeling to this outfit I was wearing my favorite Brit style mixed materials coat. Everyone that follow me on regular basis knows that I love good accessories, so my combination for this outfit was this gorgeous Pierre Cardin watch and Lotus style earnings. Hope you like it.

Today I'm wearing:

Bold "Féminin de Luxe" by Igor Markov (Fashion Weekend Skopje 2015)

Young fashion designer Igor Markov presented his debut collection on Fashion Weekend Skopje 2015. Having the honor to open the official part of this year’s manifestation, Markov must have felt under a big pressure when he was making his collection.

The young designer presented his collection called „Prêt-à-porter féminin de luxe“ which was composed by 23 pieces, all in black, red, brown and white color. Little bit of Goth, little bit of Rock’n’roll and Disco defined this unique 23 pieces. What I have noticed in this collection is the designer’s dedication to modeling with wide and diverse range of cuts on the silhouettes. Perhaps his approach to tailoring is influenced by his mentor Izet Curi. But at the same time it was evident that he had such an admiration to Jean Paul Gaultier’s and Thierry Mugler's early work. Imagine, Dita fon Teese and Bianca Jagger meet Studio 54.

What I loved the most about this collection are the upper parts like the blazers and the wests, highlighting the female figure, with the design and all the cuts in interesting geometric manner. My favorite piece was two piece suit inspired by disco. The shiny red material and its excellent fit can satisfy even the most demanding customers. I also liked the west used as a dress, and the black velvet blazer with shiny crystal buttons. Markov made excellent choice of models who presented his work, and studio Leontic made perfect glamorous make-up and hair to complete the looks.

The only remark that I have is the selection of the shoes. Something was not wright with the shoes. At this time I don’t have answer to this question. My opinion is that a fashion show is complete only if all the clothes, shoes and accessories used in the collection, follow one unique story. I hope that he will pay more attention to this in his next show.
